TERMS OF SERVICE
Last updated: March 2026
Research Use Only
Polymer Genomics is provided exclusively for research, educational, and informational purposes. This platform is not intended for clinical or diagnostic use. It is not a medical device and has not been reviewed, approved, or cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) or any other regulatory agency.
Do not use data from this platform as a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Reference assembly coordinates may differ from clinical-grade annotations.
No Warranty
This platform and all data served through it are provided “as is” and “as available” without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to the warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, completeness, or non-infringement.
Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Polymer Genomics, its operators, and contributors shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, data, use, or goodwill, arising out of or in connection with your use of or inability to use the platform, whether based on warranty, contract, tort, or any other legal theory, even if advised of the possibility of such damages. Our total aggregate liability for all claims arising from or related to this platform shall not exceed the greater of (a) zero dollars ($0) or (b) the total fees you paid to Polymer Genomics in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim.
Intellectual Property
The Polymer Genomics source code (API server, SDK, MCP server, and frontend) is released under the MIT License. The compilation and arrangement of data within the Polymer Genomics database, including computed biophysical tracks, is a proprietary work of Polymer Genomics.
Upstream data sources retain their original licenses as described on the Data Sources page. Some data layers carry non-commercial use restrictions (including data sourced from UCSC Genome Browser and COSMIC). Some layers are subject to copyleft obligations (gnomAD: ODC-ODbL 1.0; Human Protein Atlas: CC BY-SA 3.0). Users are responsible for complying with all applicable upstream license terms.
Certain epigenetic clock coefficients served through this platform may be covered by patents (e.g., GrimAge: US Patent 10,706,957). Clock data is provided for informational reference only. Computation of epigenetic age using these coefficients may require separate licensing from the respective patent holders.
Your use of this platform does not grant you any intellectual property rights in the platform or any content beyond the limited right to use the service as permitted by these terms.
Acceptable Use Policy
You agree not to use the platform for any of the following:
- Clinical or diagnostic use on human subjects
- Reselling or sublicensing API access to third parties
- Training commercial machine learning models on bulk-downloaded data without compliance with all upstream data licenses
- Misrepresenting data obtained from Polymer Genomics as your own original work
- Reverse-engineering rate limits, security measures, or access controls
Termination
Polymer Genomics may suspend or terminate your access (including API keys) at any time, for cause or convenience, with or without notice. Upon termination, your right to use the platform ceases immediately. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination (including warranty disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification, and dispute resolution) shall survive.
Copyright / DMCA
If you believe that content on Polymer Genomics infringes your copyright, please submit a written notice to our designated agent at hello@polymerbio.org containing: (1) identification of the copyrighted work claimed to be infringed, (2) identification of the allegedly infringing material, (3) your contact information, and (4) a statement made under penalty of perjury that you have a good-faith belief that the use is not authorized.
Dispute Resolution
Any dispute arising from or relating to these terms or your use of the platform shall be resolved through binding arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association (AAA) under its Commercial Arbitration Rules, for claims under $50,000. You agree to waive any right to participate in class action lawsuits or class-wide arbitration. For claims not subject to arbitration, the exclusive venue shall be the state or federal courts located in San Francisco County, California.
Data and Redistribution
Polymer Genomics aggregates data from multiple public genomic databases, each with its own license. Users may query and use results for research purposes. Data layers are classified into licensing tiers:
- Unrestricted: Public Domain, CC0, CC BY 4.0, MIT, Apache 2.0 — commercial use permitted (attribution may be required)
- Copyleft: gnomAD (ODC-ODbL 1.0), Human Protein Atlas (CC BY-SA 3.0) — commercial use permitted but derivative databases/works must comply with share-alike obligations
- Non-commercial only: UCSC-sourced tracks (CpG Islands, PhyloP, PhastCons, RepeatMasker), COSMIC data — commercial use requires separate licensing from the original providers
Per-layer license information is available programmatically at /v1/layers/{key}/license. Bulk redistribution of data obtained from this platform requires compliance with all upstream data licenses. See the Data Sources page for a complete list of sources and their license terms.
Fair Use and Rate Limiting
Access to the API is subject to rate limiting to ensure availability for all users. Automated scraping, bulk downloading, or any activity that degrades service performance is prohibited without prior written authorization. We reserve the right to throttle or block access that violates fair use.
Service Availability
We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the service (or any part thereof) at any time, with or without notice. We shall not be liable to you or any third party for any modification, suspension, or discontinuance of the service.
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Polymer Genomics, its operators, and contributors from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the platform or violation of these terms.
Governing Law
These terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles. For any claims not subject to arbitration, the exclusive venue shall be the state or federal courts located in San Francisco County, California.
Changes to Terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the platform constitutes acceptance of any revised terms. Material changes will be noted by updating the date at the top of this page.
